Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Waterfowl Section: Attn Don Kraege 600 Capitol Way N Olympia, WA 98501-1091 Phone 360-902-2522 Fax 360-902-2162 Dear Mr. Kraege, I the undersigned being an active waterfowl hunter request and fully endorse the following changes to the 2003 - 2004 waterfowl season in Eastern Washington goose management areas 4 & 5. Early goose - September 6th - 10th Due to the fact we have little if any resident goose problems in our areas. After the first shots of the early season the birds are all in a safe place for the remainder of the season. We feel a week is a waste of our hunting days and does little to control bird numbers after the first weekend. In the future any days needed to take the general season to the last Sunday of January should be taken from the early season. Youth hunt - September 20th & 21st General Season Duck - October 4th - 15th – October 25th through January 25th Goose - October 18th through January 25th The third week of October is the time frame we normally see migrating birds starting to move into Eastern Washington. I also request that the days between December 25th and January 1st be added as goose days. This would enable the students that are out of school to hunt during this time break. I feel the above referenced dates best take advantage of the normal migratory waterfowl patterns in Eastern Washington goose management areas 4 & 5 for hunting purposes of the 2003-2004 season. We also request similar seasons for the years to follow. We understand the limits set by the Game Dept. are done on good faith for the betterment of waterfowl populations and are based on good scientific fact.
